Under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme of Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy, Universiti Utara Malaysia (TISSA-UUM), Associate Professor Dr. Haslinda Hassan, Dr. Muhammad Rosni Amir Hussin, Dr. Hafizah Mohammad Hsbollah, and Dr. Hafizah Abd Mutalib, four dedicated lecturers, have been availing their time and experience to continuously oversee the business operations of Pasar Mini Anak Yatim (PMAY).
PMAY was founded in 2010 in Sik, Kedah by its trustee, Pertubuhan Asuhan dan Didikan Anak-Anak Yatim Islam Daerah Sik (ADIK). Its main objective is to supply groceries and household essentials to people living in the surrounding area and is the middleman for distributing local products. The income from the business is used to support Rumah Gemilang Anak Yatim (RG), an orphanage run by ADIK.
TISSA-UUM commenced its CSR work in 2017. Over the five years, the lecturers have been monitoring the operations of PMAY, including its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The findings have now been documented and presented to ADIK, together with recommendations to improve decisions made as well as the overall business operations.
TISSA-UUM hopes that this CSR project has made a significant impact on PMAY’s business operations, thereby ensuring that it grows from strength to strength whilst also ensuring the long-term viability of RG.
