The Taxation Unit TISSA-UUM organised the third CEO in Class Programme by inviting a guest speaker from the Inland Board of Malaysia (IRBM) on 28 June 2022. The lecture entitled Taxation on Islamic-Based Transactions was delivered by Mrs Noriza Esa from the Specialised Industries Branch, IRBM. The speaker is an expert in taxation for banking and financial institutions and obtained a degree related to Islamic Finance. The title is related to a chapter in BKAT3023 Advanced Taxation course.
The program aims to provide an overview of Islamic-based transactions and the tax treatment for this type of transaction. The current tax updates, incentives and issues pertaining to Islamic-based transactions were also discussed by the speaker. The program serves as a medium for students to learn directly from practical points of view. The expert experiences shared during the session were also valuable to participants as they are not available in the textbook. The collaboration between TISSA-UUM and external organisations such as the IRBM is excellent in enhancing the teaching and learning process that will close the gap between theoretical knowledge and the practical world.
The program was conducted virtually via Cisco Webex for about two hours and about 115 participants attended the session. They portrayed their enthusiasm for the topic being delivered by asking questions during the Q&A session. The students also expressed that they are looking forward to more sharing from experts in the field sessions. However, this is the last CEO in Class program that is planned for semester A212. This beneficial program will be continued in coming semesters with more topics of interest.
